What do you do if money is no object and you’re a massive Star Trek fan? Well, Chinese tech billionaire and Sci-fi geek Liu Dejian decided to model his new office building on the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-E.

Located in Fuzhou, South East China this $97million, 6-floor, 260-metre long homage to Star Trek is the headquarters of NetDragon Websoft, China’s leading online gaming & mobile internet provider.

Clearly visible on Google Earth the building looks like the Enterprise-E has landed on a planet. Such is its likeness to the Starship Enterprise, NetDragon asked for licensing permission from the copyright holders, US TV network CBS before building it.

The story goes that CBS thought the request was a joke before eventually giving approval, making the building unsurprisingly the only officially licensed building based upon Star Trek’s virtual spaces & structures.

The interior of the building also features another nod to Star Trek in terms of the famous Starship sliding doors, it’s unknown whether they have the accompanying sound effect.

Straying away from the Star Trek theme, the building also has a full-size replica of a Tyrannosaurus Rex, modeled on the skeletal remains found in South Dakota in 1987. There are also 9m long steel slides from the 3rd floor to the ground floor which employees can use if they’re in a hurry or just fancy a bit of fun. Beats taking the stairs.

Of course, as we all know, all work and no play makes Jack (or Liu) a dull boy. As such, there’s a VR experience centre, horse riding, swimming pool, a sports field, and a lake to help the employees relax & unwind following a hard day of going up & down the slides and walking around pretending to be part of Star Fleet.

I really hope the dress policy is Star Trek cosplay or at least cosplay Friday.

Take Care

Mike
